Job summary

Voyager Technologies seeks a Senior Process Development Chemist to design bench-scale experiments, build fundamental process understanding, and guide scale-up from lab to pilot and production. You will work with kinetics, crystallization, impurities, and hazard assessment, reporting to the Chief Engineer on-site in Penrose/Pueblo, CO.

You will collaborate with chemical engineers to translate data into production equipment while shaping development standards for energetic materials and oxidizers.

Qualifications

• MS in chemistry (physical, inorganic, organic, organometallic, analytical) or related physical science
• 5+ years of experience in process development, process chemistry, or process scale-up
• Demonstrated proficiency designing and executing DoE to define operating windows and characterize factor interactions
• Hands-on experience developing crystallization and purification/separation processes while applying fundamental principles of particle engineering
• Hands-on experience assessing reaction and thermal hazards (e.g. calorimetry, thermal stability measurement, gas analysis)
• Track record of transferring a process from lab to pilot or production, including authoring the supporting reports and data packages
• Ability to communicate technical results in writing and presentation to both chemistry and engineering audiences

Responsibilities

• Designing bench-scale experiments (~100g-10kg) to characterize kinetics/thermodynamics, crystallization, impurity rejection, and pH/buffer control
• Applying Design of Experiments to define operating windows and critical parameters
• Characterizing reaction and thermal hazards to support safe scale-up
• Ensuring scale-relevant designs accounting for mixing, heat transfer, and mass transfer
• Producing data packages that transfer process understanding to engineering
• Collaborating with chemical engineers to close data gaps during design and scale-up
• Contributing to safe laboratory operations including reagent/solvent selection and waste minimization
