Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Process Chemical Engineer for our Randburg-based client in the specialty chemical sector. The role centers on optimizing existing production processes, troubleshooting issues, and contributing to the design and implementation of new process technologies to boost plant performance.

You will collaborate with production, R&D and maintenance teams to ensure safe, efficient operations and high-quality outputs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering.
• 7+ years of experience in process engineering within a chemical manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and statistical analysis tools.
• Strong understanding of unit operations, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and reaction engineering.
• Demonstrated experience in process troubleshooting, debottlenecking, and continuous improvement.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
• Experience with P&ID development and review.
• Knowledge of process safety principles and practices.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and optimize chemical processes to improve yield, throughput, energy efficiency, and product quality.
• Conduct root cause analyses for process deviations and implement effective corrective actions.
• Develop and update process documentation, including PFDs, P&IDs, and operating procedures.
• Collaborate with the engineering team on the design and implementation of process modifications and capital projects.
• Perform process simulations and modeling to evaluate potential improvements and new technologies.
• Ensure adherence to safety, health, and environmental regulations in all process activities.
• Provide technical support and mentorship to junior engineers and plant operators.
• Troubleshoot complex operational problems and recommend sustainable solutions.
• Stay informed about new technologies and industry best practices in chemical process engineering.
• Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) and implement recommendations.
