Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections – Corrections Services in Natchitoches, Louisiana is seeking a promoted probation/parole officer to supervise and investigate adult offenders on or seeking release to probation, parole, work releases, a community residential center or grant of pardon. Public safety is the utmost concern in all duties.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience as a probation or parole officer, or in counseling, psychology, social work, education, criminal justice, or administrative services plus one of: three years in corrections or law enforcement; three years of active military duty; six years in any field; or a bachelor’s degree.
• One year of experience plus a master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, education, business administration, public administration, or criminal justice field.
• Experience substitution: 30 semester hours = 1 year; max substitution 120 semester hours (4 years).

Responsibilities

• Conduct investigations of high-risk offenders and provide intensive supervision to high-profile cases.
• Ensure sex offender compliance with laws and administer urine drug tests.
• Coordinate and supervise community service work by parolees.
• Work cases in sheriffs' maintenance, work release, and community residential programs.
• Support the department's IMPACT program and ACA standards compliance.
• Conduct jail operation audits and disciplinary hearings for inmates.
