Job summary

Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration seeks a Sr. Principal Engineer, System Safety for on-site work in Huntsville, AL (or Colorado Springs, CO). This role focuses on leading systems safety activities for the C2BMC program to support national defense objectives.

The candidate will develop safety plans, conduct hazard analyses, and mentor engineers while coordinating with government customers and stakeholders. A Secret clearance is required to start.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Cybersecurity, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, with 8 years of experience; or a Master’s in a related field with 6 years of experience; or 12 years may substitute for degree
• Active in-scope Government-issued Secret clearance at time of application
• Experience in systems engineering and software systems engineering with new systems development and integration
• Experience performing system safety assessment and evaluating safety impacts across complex systems
• Ability to collaborate in an integrated team with systems, software, and engineers to develop safe solutions
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for documenting safety analyses
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and multiple priorities
• Systems engineering background with specialization in system and software safety
• Experience analyzing system/software designs to ensure safety requirements and hazard control
• Ability to apply engineering principles to design features meeting safety criteria
• Experience developing safety documents such as SSPP/SSA/SAR
• Experience with hazard identification techniques and participation in hazard analysis activities
• Knowledge of MIL-STD-882E and compliant safety program for complex defense systems
• Experience identifying safety-critical requirements and verification/validation

Responsibilities

• Lead and perform systems safety engineering activities for C2BMC capabilities
• Develop and maintain program system safety plans ensuring compliance with safety standards
• Integrate safety considerations across product lines from concept to fielding
• Generate safety-related requirements and criteria for specifications
• Train and mentor junior engineers in systems engineering and safety techniques
• Review engineering products to ensure safety requirements are addressed
• Interface with government customers and stakeholders on safety positions
• Apply systems engineering principles to new developments and integrations
• Support hazard identification, hazard analysis, and risk assessments
• Coordinate with engineering, integration, test, and operations teams to verify safety requirements
• Develop and maintain safety artifacts and documentation
• Interact with management and customers to ensure high-quality safety products
• Support occasional travel for reviews and test activities
