Job Overview:
This opening is primarily for nearshore projects within the Low Carbon Solutions business line.
The role is for Senior Principal Structural Engineer with responsibility for structural design and analysis for Onshore and Offshore Oil & Gas, LNG, and Renewables Industry projects including deliverables such as structures, piperacks, modules, foundations, etc. The work includes conceptual studies, FEEDs, estimates, detail design, and construction support. The successful candidate is able to effectively communicate technical solutions and concepts, and can be assigned as the civil / structural lead on a project.
Essential Qualifications and Education:
- BS degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited university
- Registered Professional Engineer
- Minimum 20 years civil / structural engineering experience
- Minimum 10 years structural engineering experience on offshore EPF projects in the oil & gas industry
- Minimum 5 years structural engineering experience in offshore lead roles
- Knowledge of civil / structural engineering codes and standards
- Proficient in detail civil / structural engineering and design work procedures and processes
- Proficient in civil / structural analysis software
- Strong communication skill and professional ethics to interface with clients and project team
Preferred Qualifications and Education:
- Field and fabrication / module yard experience
- Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in engineering
- 20+ years of experience in oil and gas with a major contractor or consultants predominantly performing detail design
- Preferably Registered Professional Engineer or member of professional engineering society as applicable
- Seasoned knowledge of engineering standards and specifications
- Good knowledge of engineering software
- Able to work independently
- Good working knowledge of English, both oral and written
- HSE, TQM, and cost-conscious
- Good technical structural knowledge
- Good organizer, motivator, and supervisor
- Keen on improving the effectiveness of the work
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Capable of leading a structural project team
- Prepare philosophies, basis of design, and specifications
- Interface with geotechnical engineers and implement geotechnical recommendations
- Provide input in support of permitting efforts
- Prepare material requisition and subcontract scope of work
- Perform technical bid evaluation and supplier document review
- Provide engineering manhour and quantity estimates
- Coordinate with supporting offices
- Prepare and check calculations
- Identify potential changes, and track engineering quantities against budget
- Provide schedule and progress updates
- Support construction
- Mentor junior engineers
- Perform conceptual, FEED, and detailed analyses and design as per design basis, project specifications, design codes, and standards
- Apply in-depth skills and broad knowledge of the business to address complex problems and nonstandard situations
- Prepare clear and accurate detailed design calculations and analyses including design reports and procedures
- Manage own time to meet objectives and forecast and plan resource requirements
- Communicate and explain difficult concepts and persuade others to adopt a point of view
- Direct medium or large Engineering team as a Lead Engineer
- Lead the Discipline engineering design of the assigned work area and complete it within the planned schedule and budget
- Plan, organize, and direct all aspects of Discipline execution on the assigned project including scope, deliverables, schedule, and all manpower resources
- Ensure interfaces and deliverables are identified
- Maintain responsibility for progress and productivity, identifying any required corrective action
- Act as project representative for Discipline during meetings with the Project Team
- Customer discipline lead and relevant agencies such as certifying authorities, auditors, third parties, etc.
Reports to: Lead Engineer, Project Engineering Manager, or Project Manager or Supervising Department Manager
Liaise with: All Engineering disciplines, Construction site/Fabrication Group, Safety Dept, Project Management Team, Document Control, Project Planner, Project Cost Controller, QC and Certification Group, Procurement Group, Subcontractors and Vendors, and Customers
Supervises: Senior Engineers, Engineers and Designers
