Job summary

Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration seeks a Senior Principal Software Engineer – SW Product Owner to lead a Global software development team in Colorado Springs. You’ll own requirements, prioritize the backlog, and drive delivery for a large Java-based system that supports MDA projects and experiments.

You will combine strong Java/Unix/Linux software engineering with product ownership, ensuring stakeholder needs translate into actionable requirements and that capabilities

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field with 8 years of experience; or a Master’s degree with 6 years; or 12 years in lieu of degree
• Current, active in-scope Government-issued Top Secret security clearance at start
• Experience as software leader on a team in a role such as Scrum Master, Product Owner, or similar leadership
• Knowledge of Agile principles and practices with demonstrated Agile experience
• Proficiency in Java for designing, developing, and testing large-scale distributed applications
• Experience developing in a Unix/Linux environment
• Strong understanding of OOP, design patterns, and testing/debugging
• Excellent oral and written communication with diverse stakeholders
• Ability to work in fast-paced, structured development and configuration management environments
• Knowledge of coding standards and software practices
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to drive solutions

Responsibilities

• Serve as Product Owner and technical lead for a large Java-based distributed system
• Provide day-to-day leadership and mentorship to an Agile software team
• Analyze and support a large distributed system in Java, including performance optimization
• Provide technical consulting to align Global and Regional capabilities
• Gather and refine stakeholder requirements, ensuring timely deliveries
• Define and maintain acceptance criteria for backlog items
• Remove blockers to support progress and release commitments
• Assist software team in design, implementation, testing, and integration
• Develop, refine, and prioritize stories per program priorities
• Interface with system support groups to resolve problems and improve efficiency
• Support planning and execution of projects, including non-standard hours when needed
• Collaborate with Government customers and stakeholders to communicate approaches and trade-offs
• Adapt to changing requirements and deliver high-quality solutions
