Boehringer Ingelheim's Ridgefield, CT site is seeking a Senior Principal Scientist to lead the Discovery Acceleration Unit within Biotherapeutics Discovery.

You will oversee construct design, protein expression, purification and characterization, guiding interdisciplinary teams to deliver novel tools and advance therapeutic concepts.

The role emphasizes scientific leadership, strategic planning, mentorship of staff, and ensuring compliant, high-quality lab work across programs.

Qualifications

• PhD in biochemistry, protein chemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, structural biology, biophysics or related discipline.
• 5+ years of relevant industry experience.
• 4–6 years leadership and/or project management experience.
• Hands-on experience with antibody engineering and protein workflows.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Discovery Acceleration Unit to design, produce, and deliver molecular biology and protein science tools for therapeutic concept ideation.
• Oversee construct design, protein expression, purification, and characterization activities.
• Provide scientific leadership to interdisciplinary teams and guide tool selection and experimental strategies.
• Develop and implement new R&D goals, plan experiments, and manage multiple projects.
• Mentor, develop, and manage scientific staff while ensuring a compliant, safe laboratory environment.
