Job summary

Northrop Grumman in Woodland Hills, CA is seeking a Navigation IPT Lead (Sr. Principal Engineer Systems) to plan, budget, execute, and report progress for a multidisciplinary team of navigation, software, systems, and test engineers, ensuring navigation algorithms meet safety‑critical standards for the latest M‑code capable embedded GPS/INS systems.

You will lead development of navigation functions, oversee algorithm planning, and collaborate to drive product roadmaps within the Navigation IPT,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of experience in software/engineering fields; or a Master’s degree with 6 years; or a PhD with 4 years.
• Experience in navigation, avionics, guidance, or embedded systems development.
• Knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM) and tracking development progress.
• Experience directing multidisciplinary engineering teams (navigation, software, systems, test).
• Experience in software or algorithm development, integration, and testing.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of new navigation functions and updates within a safety-critical software framework (DO-178C).
• Oversee planning and execution of navigation algorithms and software functionality.
• Collaborate with Product Line Chief Engineer to develop roadmaps and implement them within the Navigation IPT.
• Ensure the IPT’s scope is executed within cost and schedule targets.
• Set up and conduct Scrum/Agile ceremonies (PI planning, sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives).
• Identify and mitigate execution risks to navigation and navigation-software development.
• Determine staffing needs and coordinate staffing across multiple scrum teams.
• Present execution plans and progress to customers and senior leadership.
• Collect, manage, and report TPMs related to navigation performance and milestones.
• Travel to customer, supplier, and Northrop Grumman locations at least 10%.
