Job summary

American Honda Motor Co., Inc. is seeking a Counsel III; Sr. Principal to provide strategic intellectual property counsel across advanced technologies, including software and AI, with leadership of patent clearance and portfolio strategy. This role collaborates with senior leadership to manage IP risk and enable innovation.

The position requires 15+ years of experience, a JD, and bar admission, with remote-eligible work up to 20% and a base salary commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
• Admittance to applicable state bar.
• Minimum 15 years of legal experience with patent clearance, prosecution, and landscape work.
• Strong knowledge of software/electrical technologies and ability to learn new tech.
• Experience leading large, complex patent clearance projects with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Provide patent legal support for multiple Honda business areas including software, AI, electrification.
• Draft, prepare and prosecute patent applications in-house.
• Manage IP portfolio strategy and risk; drive process improvements.
