Job summary

Pratt & Whitney is seeking a Senior Principal Engineer in Materials and Process Modeling for the East Hartford area. The role focuses on developing and implementing modeling tools for gas turbine engine materials applications within the Materials and Process Engineering (MPE) organization.

The candidate will lead a focused modeling team, collaborate with design and characterization groups, and contribute to external funding opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a materials-related technical field is required.
• 8+ years of experience in materials and process modeling techniques or 5+ years with an advanced degree.
• U.S. person or eligible to obtain export authorization.

Responsibilities

• Be part of a focused materials modeling team in a fast-moving environment.
• Support development, implementation, and maturation of materials process and property models and simulations.
• Develop and deploy tools for computational materials in gas turbine engine–relevant systems.
• Provide expertise in atomistic simulation techniques (MD, ab initio/DFT, ML, MLIP, Monte Carlo).
• Assess maturity and suitability of materials modeling tools for business needs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support manufacturing and development goals.
• Lead technical projects including planning, cost estimation, and execution.
• Identify opportunities for external funding, including government contracts.
