Job summary

RTX is seeking a Senior Principal Engineer in East Hartford, CT to lead materials modeling efforts for gas turbine engine applications. You will join a dedicated MPE team focused on developing models, simulations and tools for advanced materials systems.

The role requires deep expertise in atomistic methods (MD/DFT), ML/MLIP, and programming in Python/C++. You will coordinate with cross-functional teams, manage projects, and pursue external funding while supporting manufacturing goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of experience in Materials and Process Modeling Techniques OR an Advanced Degree with 5+ years of experience in Materials and Process Modeling Techniques.
• U.S. person or eligible to obtain export authorization.

Responsibilities

• Join a focused materials modeling team in a fast-moving environment.
• Develop, implement and mature materials process and property models and simulations.
• Develop and execute tools and methods for computational materials in gas turbine engines.
• Provide expertise in atomistic simulation techniques (MD, ab initio, etc.).
• Assess maturity and suitability of materials modeling tools for business needs.
• Collaborate with technology development, characterization, lifing and design teams to support goals.
• Lead technical projects including planning, cost estimation and execution.
• Identify and pursue opportunities for external funding, including government contracts.
