Role Summary
As a Senior Preconstruction Manager at Choate Construction, you provide strategic leadership and guidance during the preconstruction phase to ensure projects are positioned for success long before work begins in the field.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and direct the preconstruction team across contracting, scheduling, estimating, and bidding activities, coordinating closely with the Operations Manager and Division Manager on team assignments and project strategy.
- Serve as a trusted partner to clients and designers, building long‑term relationships and representing Choate Construction with professionalism, credibility, and integrity.
- Communicate and advocate with owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractors, fostering positive team dynamics and positioning Choate as a preferred builder.
- Take a disciplined, proactive approach to risk management—accurately estimating, identifying risks early, and ensuring contract requirements are fully understood and addressed.
- Lead the development of detailed estimates, cost models, and bid strategies that balance competitiveness with constructability and long‑term project success.
- Engage in business development efforts, identifying new opportunities, participating in presentations, and strengthening Choate’s client pipeline.
- Guide and mentor preconstruction teams, delegating effectively, developing talent, and creating clarity and confidence across pursuits and estimates.
- Make decisions with the full business in mind, leading bid‑day strategy, evaluating deal value, and driving outcomes that support Choate Construction’s financial and strategic goals.
Qualifications
- 15+ years of overall construction experience, including at least 10 years in a preconstruction leadership or estimating capacity.
- Experience managing very large, complex, specialized, and/or multiple concurrent projects.
- Strong leadership, delegation, and decision‑making skills, with the ability to empower teams, align stakeholders, and balance risk, cost, and constructability.
- Excellent communication, advocacy, and relationship‑building skills.
- Proven ability to develop detailed estimates, cost models, and bid strategies that are accurate, competitive, and executable.
- Experience in business development and client interaction.
