Senior Preconstruction Lead — Life Sciences Projects

Job summary

IPS, Integrated Project Services, is seeking a Senior Preconstruction Manager to lead all preconstruction activities for technically complex facilities in the life sciences sector. The role is based in Burlington, MA, with significant responsibility from project initiation through construction readiness and handoff to execution teams.

You will collaborate with design, procurement, CQV, and client teams, develop cost plans and schedules, and ensure alignment with budget and client expectations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction management, or related discipline; or equivalent professional experience.
• 10+ years of experience in project delivery related to preconstruction activities for various levels.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional initiation meetings and define project communications, roles, and escalation paths.
• Develop governance structures, approval workflows, and decision-making hierarchies.
• Stand up PM tools and document control systems; train project teams.
• Develop risk registers and stakeholder maps integrated into planning tools.
• Develop preconstruction and construction execution plans and ensure readiness.
• Coordinate design iterations, conduct constructability reviews, and manage VE workflows.
• Lead the schedule and basis of schedule narrative with the scheduler; develop master schedules across design, permitting, procurement, construction, commissioning, and validation.
• Lead procurement planning, budgeting, and bid package development; work with procurement to prequalify subcontractors.
• Drive construction readiness activities and site logistics; ensure safety plans and SOPs are in place.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction management, or related discipline
