Job summary

Knife River Northwest is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to lead complex precast and prestressed design work, independently guiding projects from concept through production. You will mentor engineers, review calculations, and ensure PCI standards and codes are met across KRPI teams.

The role requires a PE license and strong communication with customers, consultants, contractors, and internal teams. Expect collaboration across engineering leadership and field teams on major regional projects.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Professional Engineer license required.
• Ability to lead technical discussions with customers and teams.
• Advanced knowledge in precast/prestressed design and PCI standards.
• Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills.
• Proficiency with common engineering software and CAD tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex precast/prestressed projects and prepare calculations and drawings.
• Apply advanced judgment on design details, load paths, and constructability.
• Provide senior technical guidance within KRPI and with external stakeholders.
• Mentor junior engineers and drafters.
• Improve and standardize tools, templates, and design practices.
• Support safety, continuous improvement, and related duties.
