Job summary

Knife River Corporation seeks a Senior Design Engineer to lead complex precast and prestressed concrete design work, guiding teams and engaging with customers and project managers. The role emphasizes independent judgment, mentoring, and standardizing tools and practices across KRPI.

You will review designs, ensure code compliance, and drive high-quality technical outcomes across major projects with Engineering leadership and field teams.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Civil or Structural Engineering or closely related field.
• Professional Engineer license required.
• Ability to interpret drawings, specs, and codes while leading customers and internal teams.
• Advanced knowledge of structural engineering, reinforced/prestressed concrete design, precast behavior, and code requirements.
• Strong analytical and communication skills; defend engineering decisions to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex precast/prestressed projects and review plans, specs, criteria, and requirements.
• Apply advanced judgment on design, connections, load paths, tolerances, and constructability.
• Serve as senior technical voice with stakeholders including customers, consultants, and internal teams.
• Evaluate non-standard conditions and propose practical, safe, and compliant solutions.
• Perform senior quality reviews of drawings, calculations, and submittals; provide final guidance.
