Job summary

Knife River Northwest is seeking a Design Engineer to execute engineering tasks, calculations, and drawing support for precast and prestressed concrete structures. You will collaborate with engineering leadership, project management, drafting, and field teams to deliver safe, code-compliant designs.

Responsibilities include reviewing plans, developing calculations, and coordinating with internal and external teams to advance projects from concept to construction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
• Engineer-in-Training certification or ability to obtain shortly after hire.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, sketches, specs, and documents.
• Knowledge of structural engineering and concrete design; precast/prestressed exposure desired.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Excel, Word, Outlook, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Mathcad or similar tools.

Responsibilities

• Review plans, specs, requirements, and design criteria; flag conflicts and non-standard conditions for review.
• Prepare structural calculations and support drawing development for precast and prestressed products.
• Develop design recommendations supporting safety, code compliance, and constructability.
• Coordinate work with Engineering leadership, project managers, drafting, and field teams.
• Support building structures, bridges, and other precast/prestressed systems through delivery and erection considerations.
• Perform quality checks of drawings, calculations, submittals, and documents.
