Job summary

Knife River Northwest is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to lead complex precast and prestressed concrete design. You will mentor engineers, review calculations, and guide non-standard solutions, representing KRPI in technical discussions with customers and partners.

Ideal candidates hold a PE license, have a strong background in structural design and PCI standards, and will influence practices, tools, and templates across KRPI projects.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Civil/Structural Engineering or closely related discipline.
• Professional Engineer license required.
• Ability to interpret drawings and lead technical discussions with customers and teams.
• Advanced knowledge of structural design, precast/prestressed concrete, and PCI standards.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex precast/prestressed projects; review plans, specs, and criteria; establish approach and prepare calculations.
• Apply advanced judgment on precast/prestressed behavior, connections, load paths, and constructability.
• Serve as senior technical voice with Engineering leadership, PMs, drafting, production, and customers.
• Evaluate non-standard conditions, risks, and codes to recommend safe, practical solutions.
• Perform senior quality reviews of drawings, calculations, submittals, and documents.
• Mentor junior engineers and drafters; build engineering judgment and tool capability.
• Improve and standardize tools, templates, and design practices across KRPI projects.
