Job summary

Electric Power Research Institute, Inc. is seeking a senior engineer for the Critical Power & Electromagnetic Threats program in Knoxville, TN. The role focuses on power system simulation, data analysis, and design, requiring US citizenship and ability to obtain security clearance.

The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of R&D experience, expertise in multiple simulation platforms, and strong communication skills to lead cross-functional teams and deliver robust solutions across projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience required.
  • 10+ years of R&D project experience at a national laboratory, research institute, and/or utility.
  • Knowledge of computational methods used to analyze, plan and operate electrical power systems.
  • Experience designing and implementing complex simulations across multiple platforms.
  • Excellent communication with customers and staff, both verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Perform power system analysis (time-domain and frequency-domain) using software tools like EMTP-RV, PowerWorld, PSS/E, OpenDSS, etc.
  • Design, implement, and test novel analytics and simulation capabilities.
  • Provide technical leadership through collaboration with a diverse team of subject-matter experts and junior staff.
  • Provide engineering support and solutions to technical challenges that arise daily over a broad range of electrical engineering topics.
  • Manage medium-to-large-scale projects, including budgets and resources.
  • Communicate strategies and results, written and verbal, to program members, clients and external stakeholders through guidelines, reports, meetings, webcasts, workshops, and conferences.
