Job summary

Shermco seeks a Protection and Control Engineer to lead complex power systems projects for industrial clients. The ideal candidate mentors junior engineers and provides expert technical guidance across distribution solutions.

Responsibilities include performing power system studies, configuring relays, and reviewing engineering work to ensure quality and timely delivery, with periodic site visits and collaboration with sales for project bids.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; PE license preferred.
At least 5 years of engineering experience with power systems.
Experience with low and medium-voltage equipment for power distribution.
Experience with NEC, NFPA70E and local codes.
Experience in short-circuit, protective device coordination, arc-flash, motor starting and power quality studies.
Experience with power system software such as SKM, ETAP, ASPEN, Easy Power, or other modeling software.
Knowledge of drafting techniques; AutoCAD a plus.
Ability to read project plans and specifications; strong technical writing.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills; able to work independently or in a team.
Field experience with substations or switchgear is desirable.

Responsibilities

Lead engineering projects from concept to completion, ensuring timelines and budgets.
Mentor less experienced Electrical Engineers in customer-support contexts.
Ensure analysis, troubleshooting, and studies comply with IEEE and NFPA standards.
Review and approve engineering work for accuracy and quality.
Visit customer sites to gather information and address issues.
Collaborate with sales and support on estimating and bidding projects.
