Job summary

Redtree Engineering seeks a Senior Power Systems Engineer to lead interconnection studies, model large loads, and design protective schemes for utility-scale renewables, BESS, and data centers. Remote work across the U.S. is supported.

You will apply NERC/FERC/ISO requirements, build ETAP/PSSE/PSCAD models, and collaborate with clients and OEMs to deliver robust, scalable power systems. ERCOT experience is a strong plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Systems preferred.
• 8+ years of relevant experience in power systems planning, interconnection studies, or critical power/BESS engineering.
• Strong experience with PSSE dynamic modeling and analysis, PSCAD EMT modeling, and ETAP steady-state and protection studies.
• Experience with large load interconnection studies, data center experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with generation interconnection (PV, wind, BESS) and ERCOT or other ISO/RTO transmission planning and compliance requirements.
• Experience embedding PPC and MPC control strategies, and with RTDS/RSCAD CHIL testing.
• Hands-on experience with BESS, power conversion systems, or MV-UPS/critical power systems for data centers.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support large load and generation interconnection studies for ERCOT and other transmission systems.
• Apply and interpret NERC, FERC, ISO/RTO, and TSP requirements for generation and large load interconnections.
• Develop and validate steady-state models in ETAP and PSSE, and dynamic models in PSSE and PSCAD for large electronic loads and renewables.
• Support development and integration of Solar/Wind/BESS PLCs and controllers.
• Participate in EPC HV/MV substation studies for large data center and utility-scale projects.
• Support or lead microgrid design and control studies at MV/HV levels.
• Interface with TSPs, ISO/RTOs, developers, OEMs, and project stakeholders.
• Perform steady-state and short-circuit analyses, protection coordination, arc-flash, and harmonic studies.
• Conduct EMT studies in PSCAD, including TOV/TRV and insulation coordination.
• Bring BESS, PCS, and controls/EMS integration expertise to projects.
