Job summary

SMA America is seeking a Senior Power Systems Engineer, IBR Modeling, PSS/E and PSCAD, for a remote role within the continental United States. You will support the U.S.

Application Engineering team with dynamic and steady-state studies, EMT simulations, and interconnection evaluations for utility-scale PV and storage projects. The ideal candidate has a solid power systems background, hands-on PSS/E and PSCAD experience, and the ability to collaborate across North American and global teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution.
• Minimum 3 years of professional experience in utility scale renewable energy (PV or energy storage).
• At least 3 years of hands-on experience developing and analyzing dynamic and steady-state models using PSS/E and PSCAD/EMTDC.
• Working knowledge of utility-scale PV and BESS plant design and integration.
• Willingness to travel internationally occasionally; including visits to Germany.
• Proficiency in English with strong communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Perform modeling and analysis of utility scale solar, storage, and hybrid plants for NA projects.
• Interpret interconnection requirements (ERCOT, MISO, CAISO, ISO-NE, NYISO, PJM, SPP) and tune models.
• Maintain and manage versions of SMA's models across PSS/E, PSCAD/EMTDC, and other platforms.
• Provide technical support by troubleshooting model functionality and running simulations.
• Analyze inverter control modes and plant-level strategies; assist validation and benchmarking.
