Job summary

Datacenter People is seeking a Principal Engineer, Power Systems on a remote basis in the United States to lead power strategy and delivery for major data center developments. You will advise on interconnection opportunities, tariff structures, PPAs and energization, working with clients, utilities and contractors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 5+ years' experience in electrical design and/or construction.
• Strong knowledge of US substation design practices and medium/high voltage distribution systems.
• Experience advising on or negotiating Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).
• Experience running substation tenders, including technical and commercial evaluation of bids.
• Experience managing and technically reviewing HV contractors through design and construction.
• Knowledge of substation testing and commissioning.
• Understanding of on-site power generation (engine and/or turbine) selection and delivery.
• Strong technical report writing and project management skills.
• Experience managing design-build and EPC contracts.
• Knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD and BIM.

Responsibilities

• Assess utility transmission and distribution networks to identify optimal interconnection opportunities, mostly demand focused.
• Advise clients on grid connection strategy based on their site and capacity requirements.
• Prepare utility interconnection applications and manage the process from application through to energization.
• Advise on utility tariff structures, electricity pricing and PPA negotiation.
• Produce schematic design packages for substations, including integration of temporary power solutions.
• Provide technical and commercial input into data center and energy center master planning, including generation, storage and site-wide power distribution.
• Run tenders for substation delivery and recommend preferred bidders based on technical and commercial assessment.
• Review delivery partner designs and manage contractors through design and construction.
