Job summary

SB Energy is seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to join the Data Center team in a remote capacity. You will lead the planning, design development, and technical review of civil infrastructure for large-scale data center campuses, setting standards and delivery frameworks.

You will collaborate with internal teams, consultants, contractors, utilities, and permitting authorities to drive engineering excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field required.
• PE license strongly preferred or required.
• 10+ years of civil engineering design/site development experience for data centers or similar facilities.
• Strong knowledge of land development processes, permitting, and utility coordination.
• Experience coordinating with cross-functional teams and external partners.

Responsibilities

• Develop and improve civil engineering standards, design criteria, and specs for data center projects.
• Serve as senior technical resource for site development, drainage, utilities, and roadways.
• Evaluate new technologies and procurement options to improve performance and reduce costs.
• Perform technical reviews of civil deliverables to ensure alignment with standards.
• Collaborate with regional teams to capture lessons learned and drive continuous improvement.
• Support site due diligence, including land constraints, utility availability, and permitting requirements.
• Coordinate with utilities, municipalities, and regulatory agencies for approvals.
• Provide guidance for contractor and consultant selection and performance reviews.
• Provide hands-on support during design, construction, and commissioning phases.
• Contribute to development of tools/templates to improve efficiency.
