Job summary

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Cherokee Mental Health Institute, seeks a Power Plant Engineer 3 for a full-time schedule (Tuesday–Friday, 6:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.). Responsible for diagnosing problems, repairing power plant equipment, operating boilers, and supporting grounds maintenance on the Cherokee campus.

Knowledge of HVAC and plumbing systems is required. Applicants will need to pass a background check.

Qualifications

• Three years of full-time experience operating, maintaining, and repairing steam boilers, HVAC, or related power plant equipment.
• Ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions and perform mechanical, electrical, and plumbing repairs.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose problems with power plant equipment and make repairs to boilers and auxiliary systems.
• Operate and maintain boilers and generate power during outages.
• Assist with grounds maintenance including snow removal and general campus upkeep.
