Job summary

Form Energy is hiring a Senior Power Plant Engineer to support modeling and validation of our power plant controls for grid interconnection. You will verify controller compliance across DC-coupled plant architecture using hardware-in-the-loop and simulations prior to field deployment.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power systems or power electronics.
• 3+ years of experience in power systems, power electronics, or controls engineering (internships, co-ops, research, or relevant projects welcomed).
• Foundational knowledge of power systems fundamentals (per-unit analysis, three-phase power, grid interconnection basics).
• Exposure to power plant controls, grid compliance standards (IEEE 1547, IEEE 2800), or inverter-based resource behavior through coursework or projects.
• Familiarity with simulation/modeling tools such as Simulink, PSCAD or HIL platforms (Typhoon HIL).
• Exposure to SCADA interfaces, metering, or similar plant data systems is a plus.
• Excellent communication skills to explain design decisions and coordinate with vendors and teams.

Responsibilities

• Support modeling and validation of the power plant controller against grid interconnection requirements, coordinating with senior staff on test planning and execution.
• Serve as a primary contact with third-party conversion equipment and controls vendors, managing interface docs and test results.
• Build and run HIL test cases (e.g., Typhoon HIL) verifying DC/DC converter and DC bus interaction with plant inverters.
• Develop and maintain simulation models in Simulink and PSCAD representing plant-level electrical behavior.
• Validate grid compliance behavior once DC bus dynamics are included in plant response.
• Support integration and testing of SCADA interfaces and meter data during plant controls validation.
• Document test plans, results, and findings, translating outcomes into clear recommendations for staff.
• Troubleshoot discrepancies between simulated and hardware-in-the-loop results and escalate root causes.
