Job summary

Nimble is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to design motor controller boards and power distribution boards for its robotic platforms. You’ll own architecture, component selection, and validation across hardware from concept to production, collaborating with firmware, controls, and software teams.

The role requires 4+ years in power electronics, strong knowledge of motor drives, and a track record shipping hardware to production, with a compensation range and equity package typical for SF Bay

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s degree, or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 4+ years designing power electronics, motor drives, or high-current embedded hardware.
  • Experience designing motor controller boards, power distribution boards, DC/DC converters, inverters, or related power systems.
  • Knowledge of power semiconductors, gate drivers, current and voltage sensing, magnetics, protection circuits, and control loops.
  • Experience with thermal analysis, power integrity, grounding, creepage and clearance, and high-current PCB layout.
  • Proficiency with Altium, OrCAD, KiCad, or a comparable PCB design tool.
  • Ability to run circuit, power electronics, and thermal simulations to validate designs before hardware testing.
  • Familiarity with embedded systems and protocols such as SPI, I2C, CAN, and UART.
  • Lab experience with oscilloscopes, current probes, electronic loads, power analyzers, and thermal cameras.
  • A record of shipping hardware products to production.
  • Knowledge of EMC/EMI design, functional safety, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Design motor controller boards, power distribution boards, and other high-power electronics for robotic platforms.
  • Own power-stage architecture, schematic capture, component selection, and PCB layout reviews for MOSFETs, gate drivers, current sensing, protection circuits, and thermal management.
  • Define grounding, power sequencing, fault handling, and interfaces among batteries, motors, sensors, and compute systems.
  • Develop drive electronics and interfaces to commutation with control firmware.
  • Work with firmware, controls, mechanical, and software engineers to integrate and test each system.
  • Write and run validation plans for efficiency, thermal performance, transient response, fault conditions, EMC/EMI, and environmental limits.
  • Diagnose power integrity, motor control, thermal, and reliability failures in the lab and on deployed robots.
  • Take designs through DFM, certification, production testing, and manufacturing ramp.
