Job summary

RTX in Huntsville, Alabama is seeking a senior Power Electronics Engineer to design, analyze, simulate and test high‑power conversion circuitry with attention to thermal management and non‑isolated topologies. You will guide ECAD personnel through PWB layout and technical drawings, and drive design work to meet schedule while presenting technical data reviews to program leadership.

Qualifications

• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience in design, analysis, simulation and/or tests of linear converters.
• Experience with buck, boost and buck-boost converter topologies.
• Experience with analog electronics including FETs, BJTs and op-amps.
• Experience with LC, transformer and inductor design considerations.
• Experience with EMI, thermal, mechanical, reliability and quality constraints.
• Ability to work with isolated converter topologies and stability analysis.
• Experience with voltages >400V and powers >10 kW.
• Strong communication and leadership skills; ability to coordinate with program management.

Job description

Responsibilities

• Design, analyze, simulate and test power conversion circuitry (including non‑isolated topologies such as buck, boost, buck‑boost, modules and discrete designs) with consideration of thermal aspects.
• Guide ECAD personnel through PWB layout of power circuitry and creation of technical drawings.
• Execute design work within a given schedule.
• Present technical data reviews to program leadership and technical staff.

Qualifications

• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum of 5 years of prior relevant professional experience.
• Professional experience in design, analysis, simulation and/or test of linear converters.
• Experience with buck, boost and/or buck‑boost non‑isolated converter topologies.
• Experience with analog electronic design and analysis, including FET, BJT and/or Op‑amp circuits.
• Experience with LC design, transformer and inductor design considerations.
• Experience with circuit simulator tools (e.g., SIMPLIS, Saber, Mathcad) and PCB layout tools (e.g., Mentor Graphics DxDesigner, HyperLynx).
• Experience guiding ECAD personnel on PWB layout and technical drawing creation.
• Experience with design for EMI, thermal, structural, mechanical, reliability and quality constraints.
• Experience with isolated converter topologies (flyback, half‑bridge, full‑bridge, push‑pull) and stability analysis.
• Ability to design for voltages >400V and power >10kW.
• Experience in program management (Earned Value), proposal development and acting as liaison between program and functional management.
• Strong interpersonal, leadership, communication and time‑management skills; self‑starter able to function in a dynamic environment.
