Job summary

Medallia is looking for a Senior Database Reliability Engineer to own production PostgreSQL clusters, drive automation, and lead incident response. The role emphasizes runbooks, performance tuning, and collaboration with cross-functional teams in a hybrid, on-site environment.

The DBRE will focus on provisioning, upgrades, backup and restore, and building scalable, reliable data platforms within Kubernetes and Medallia Cloud.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience running PostgreSQL in large-scale production or SaaS environments.
• Demonstrated knowledge of PostgreSQL internals, including MVCC, vacuum, WAL, locking, concurrency, and query planning.
• Production experience managing PostgreSQL operations: capacity planning, backups, PITR, replication, high availability, and major upgrades.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams and participating in on-call rotations.
• Fluency in English, both spoken and written.

Responsibilities

• Own the availability and performance of production PostgreSQL clusters against service objectives.
• Manage the database lifecycle: provisioning, configuration, maintenance, upgrades, scaling, and decommissioning.
• Oversee backups, recovery, replication, and high availability with regular restore tests and drills.
• Lead incident reviews and drive root-cause analysis and permanent fixes.
• Build automation, tooling, and self-service capabilities to reduce manual DBRE work.
• Collaborate with product engineering to review migrations and optimize queries for PostgreSQL.
• Maintain runbooks and documentation for operational consistency.
