Job summary

Beacon Biosignals is seeking a Software Engineer IV for the Datastore team. You will design and scale backend data infrastructure, including PostgreSQL data models, Kafka pipelines, and the GraphQL API.

You will own multi-team interfaces, drive data-driven decisions, and mentor others while delivering robust, scalable systems. Ideal candidates bring 7+ years in backend development with strong SQL, PostgreSQL, and data modeling skills, plus experience with Kafka, Kubernetes, and API design.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of backend development experience with data platforms.
• Deep PostgreSQL knowledge, data modeling, and performance tuning.
• Strong SQL proficiency and complex query design.
• Experience with data streaming and event processing (Kafka).
• Proficiency in Python; Julia is a strong plus, not required.
• Experience deploying services in containerized environments (Kubernetes).
• Mentoring engineers and driving cross-team collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and architecture for complex Datastore systems.
• Own data pipelines delivering dataset snapshots to the warehouse.
• Collaborate with platform, application, and scientific teams to enable new workflows.
• Develop APIs and schemas that unlock new data-driven workflows.
• Mentor engineers and improve tooling, tests, and documentation.
• Draft RFCs for feature discovery and technical design with stakeholders.
