Texas Department of Public Safety seeks a Police Communications Operator V (B19) with a $4,893.68 monthly compensation. Position entails advanced police and emergency management communications as a licensed first responder.

Qualifications

  • Education - Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in Criminal Justice, Business Management, Information Systems, Government, History, Statistics, Social Science, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience - Minimum of four (4) years experience in law enforcement crime analysis, dispatch, or emergency communications work preferred.
  • Licensure and/or Certification - Must obtain FEMA; 700-a, IC-800b, and TCOLE Telecommunicator Certification within 12 months of employment. Must obtain TCIC/NCIC and TLETS Certification within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates communication between DPS officers and other law enforcement agency officials and coordinates the staff who are serving as the communications links during disasters, civil disturbances, and other serious incidents using the telephone, computer networks, and radio systems.
  • Coordinates emergency assistance in incidents posing threats to state and national safety and the well-being of law enforcement officers and the general public while exercising sound judgment and resourcefulness.
  • Monitors, answers, evaluates, and prioritizes incoming telephone calls regarding risks to life and safety, laws, DPS policies and procedures, road information, and missing persons using CAD, telephones, multi-channel radio, databases and GPS mapping systems.
