Job summary

Pylon is hiring a Lead PM to own the API that underpins America’s mortgage platform. You will shape the domain model, API design, and developer experience, building a GraphQL-based schema that makes mortgage data approachable for developers and customers alike.

You will own the API roadmap, ensure a consistent platform, and collaborate with engineering on performance, security, and regulatory compliance. This role requires strong domain modeling and a proven API track record.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in software, with at least 4 as a PM on API or developer platform products.
• Experience owning and scaling public APIs used by developers at real scale.
• Strong domain modeling skills turning messy domains into clean entities and state machines.
• Deep GraphQL knowledge: schema design, nullability, pagination, error modeling, deprecation.
• Proficiency in API design beyond GraphQL (REST, webhooks, events, OAuth, API keys, rate limiting).
• Ability to write code and contribute to production codebase; prototype against the API.

Responsibilities

• Set API strategy across Pylon to align all product and engineering teams.
• Own roadmap and quality bar for the API; developers are the primary customers.
• Define and maintain the domain model for mortgage representations as products evolve.
• Lead GraphQL schema design including types, queries, mutations, subscriptions, pagination, and errors.
• Run API design reviews to maintain consistency and longevity of the schema.
• Decide versioning, deprecation, and evolution of the API to move quickly without breaking customers.
• Own developer experience: docs, API explorer, SDKs, sandboxes, and onboarding.
• Collaborate with engineering on performance, reliability, auth/permissions, rate limiting, and observability.
• Write and ship code alongside engineers to ensure real-world usability of the API.
• Build compliance into the API model for data disclosures and audit trails.
• Coordinate with Agent Platform, GTM, and Account Management to scope integrations and ensure customer success.
• Leverage AI in daily work.
