Job summary

Volumetric Building Companies (VBC) seeks a Senior Engineering Designer to join our factory-focused design team. The role emphasizes structure, mechanical and HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection with cross-functional collaboration to meet project, manufacturing, and code requirements.

You will maintain and generate BIM models and documentation, ensure office standards, and mentor junior staff while aligning with manufacturing and construction teams to optimize delivery.

Qualifications

• Minimum associate's degree or certificate in design, engineering, or building information modeling.
• Engineering, Architecture, and/or Construction experience required.
• 6-8 years of experience required.
• Experience in component design for modular construction (pre-fabrication experience) is required.
• Vertex BD proficiency required; AutoCAD and Revit proficiency preferred.
• Microsoft Office Suite proficiency required.
• Bluebeam Revu proficiency preferred.
• Must have foundational knowledge of North American wood framing standards.
• Must have a positive attitude and be able to function as part of a diverse team.
• Must be detail-oriented and organized.
• Must have the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Work with PD/PA and SPD/SPAs to ensure faithful and profitable execution of VBC Projects.
• Utilize BIM software to model structural components for manufacturing and documentation.
• Coordinate and manage deliverable schedules conforming to office standards.
• Advise and review structural deliverables from sub-consultants for conformity.
• Document structural deviations from standards for team visibility.
• Maintain structural BIM files to ensure conformity with standards.
• Record responses to RFIs, revisions, and requests in a timely, professional manner.
• Assist Senior D+E staff with code interpretations and method reviews.
• Propose revisions and improvements to BIM manuals and templates.
• Support creation of design, engineering, and manufacturing standards with structural detail development.
• Support with DfMA cross training for design and engineering staff.
• Mentor and train junior structural engineering team member.
