Job summary

SOCOTEC, Inc. is seeking an experienced Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) to provide QA and advisory oversight in our Mechanicsburg, PA office.

The role focuses on reviewing, signing, and sealing survey plans, ensuring technical quality, and supporting business development across transportation and land development projects. Key duties include mentoring junior staff, establishing QA/QC standards, overseeing boundary/topographic/ROW surveys, and coordinating with engineering teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred).
• Minimum 8+ years of progressive surveying experience, with leadership responsibilities.
• Strong knowledge of boundary law and surveying principles.
• Familiarity with Pennsylvania survey standards and PennDOT requirements; surrounding states a plus.
• Proficiency with survey software (Carlson, Trimble Business Center, Civil 3D).
• Experience with CADD platforms (AutoCAD/Civil 3D; MicroStation a plus).
• Experience with GPS, total stations, and data collectors.
• Experience developing right-of-way (ROW) plots, plans, and mosaics.

Responsibilities

• Mentor and develop junior survey staff and field crews.
• Establish and maintain department standards, procedures, and QA/QC practices.
• Provide responsible charge and signing/sealing of survey deliverables.
• Oversee boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, construction, and as-built surveys.
• Ensure compliance with PA standards and client requirements; surrounding states a plus.
• Coordinate with engineering and environmental teams on multidisciplinary projects.
• Support PennDOT and municipal project requirements.
• Assist with proposals, scope development, and fee estimates.
• Develop and maintain client relationships and identify growth opportunities.
