Job summary

ABB is seeking a Data Center Sr. PLC Technician to provide independent technical leadership across pre-startup, startup, commissioning, modification, and preventive maintenance of ABB paralleling switchgear and PLC systems in mission-critical power applications.

The role requires leading on-site activities, mentoring junior engineers, and serving as a technical interface with customers, contractors, and project teams. This is a remote-in-US position with extensive nationwide travel.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of relevant field experience, or an associate or bachelor degree with 5+ years in a related field.
• Demonstrated independent field capability for highly complex assignments.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute complex field assignments involving paralleling switchgear, PLCs, during startup, commissioning, and maintenance.
• Lead testing of emergency power systems and transfers, including load management.
• Configure and troubleshoot generator controls, protective relays, switchgear controls, HMIs, and communications.
• Troubleshoot PLC ladder logic and ACS parameters per engineering docs.
• Establish and troubleshoot Modbus and PLC communications.
• Interpret one-line diagrams and coordination studies for commissioning.
• Lead on-site execution, manage daily work, risks, and punch-list closure; mentor junior staff.
• Act as senior escalation resource for remote/on-site troubleshooting.
• Complete field service reports, startup checklists, redlines, and customer status updates.
• Protect ABB assets, control costs, and identify improvements in quality and delivery.
• Build customer relationships by translating technical findings into actionable plans.
