Job summary

Fieldguide in San Francisco is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager, Platform to lead the team building the foundational platform powering Fieldguide: core services, APIs, shared primitives, and developer tooling that enable rapid, reliable enterprise delivery.

You’ll manage ten engineers, set the platform roadmap, and partner with product, design, AI, and infrastructure leaders to maximize leverage while keeping systems scalable and resilient for Fieldguide’s largest customers.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with leadership experience.
• 3+ years managing engineers, including managers or multiple teams.
• Experience building product-facing platforms or foundational services.
• Track record hiring, developing, and retaining strong engineers.
• Strong product instincts and ability to ship platform capabilities.
• Experience setting technical strategy and roadmaps across teams.
• Fluency with cloud platforms (AWS), Kubernetes, and distributed systems.
• Judgment on what to build into the platform vs buy or leave to others.

Responsibilities

• Build, lead, and grow a high-performing platform engineering team.
• Set the platform vision and roadmap across core services and tooling.
• Own architecture strategy for SaaS, enterprise, and government-cloud environments.
• Collaborate with product, design, and AI leaders to translate needs into investments.
• Drive cross-team initiatives to improve velocity, reliability, and consistency.
• Establish standards for service design, data modeling, and integration patterns.
• Oversee the internal developer platform, deployment tooling, and tooling capabilities.
• Own the team’s operational health: reliability targets, on-call, and delivery predictability.
• Define team success metrics and report progress to executives.
