Job summary

Bixal is seeking a Staff Platform Engineer to be the senior-most technical authority on a government agency’s internal developer platform, owning target-state architecture, golden paths, and engineering standards that make secure, compliant infrastructure the easiest path to production for engineering teams.

You'll work within DevSecOps environments (GitLab, Datadog, and Terraform-based IaC), applying platform-as-product thinking and AI-assisted tooling to reduce friction across the developer

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Designing and evolving internal platforms that improve delivery speed, deployment safety, and reliability.
• Expertise in infrastructure automation, delivery pipelines, environment design, and secure provisioning.
• Ability to standardize observability and release controls across multiple applications.
• Experience reducing operational toil with self-service platform capabilities.
• Hands-on platform leadership: setting standards and driving adoption.
• Proficiency with GitLab, Jira, Confluence, Datadog, and Terraform-based patterns.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Tier 4 High Risk Public Trust clearance.

Responsibilities

• Own target-state platform architecture, golden paths, and engineering standards.
• Provide technical direction to the Platform Enablement team.
• Design and evolve internal platform capabilities to improve delivery speed and reliability.
• Establish automation, pipelines, and secure provisioning for FedRAMP systems.
• Standardize observability and release controls across applications.
• Build self-service platform capabilities and reusable patterns to reduce toil.
• Lead as a hands-on platform leader, setting standards and driving adoption.
• Collaborate with the client’s Product Owner on platform roadmap and prioritization.
• Participate in two-week sprints, architecture reviews, and knowledge-sharing.
• Perform other duties as qualified.
