Job summary

NRG Energy's Vivint Smart Home team in Seattle is hiring experienced engineers to define and build the next generation of platform infrastructure powering real-time home automation. You will design and operate cloud services, event pipelines, APIs, and IoT integrations that touch millions of devices.

This high-ownership role requires 5+ years of building production systems, expertise in Go or Python, distributed systems, REST/gRPC, and modern cloud tooling.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building and operating production systems (Senior Staff level possible).
• B.S. in Computer Science or related field preferred.
• Strong experience in Go, Python, or similar backend languages.
• Experience designing distributed systems with scalability, availability, and performance in mind.
• Experience building REST and/or gRPC APIs.
• Experience with modern cloud-native tooling (containers, orchestration, CI/CD).

Responsibilities

• Design and operate systems that power real-time smart home experiences across cloud services, APIs, and IoT integrations.
• Own systems end-to-end: design, deployment, observability, and production operations.
• Contribute to and lead architecture discussions for new platform capabilities.
• Build secure, resilient, and low-latency systems in a distributed environment.
• Mentor engineers and help establish engineering practices and technical culture.
