Job summary

Normal Computing is seeking a Platform Engineer to own and evolve the critical infrastructure powering its engineering org. The role focuses on local physical infrastructure in Mountain View with occasional travel to New York, and requires deep systems knowledge across Linux, networking, storage, and security.

You will lead automation and reliability improvements, contribute to open-source infrastructure, and document practices to scale knowledge across a distributed team.

Qualifications

• 8-10+ years in system administration or platform engineering or similar hands-on work.
• Deep Linux and/or BSD knowledge with fundamentals in systems administration.
• Broad experience across networking, storage, security, deployment, and observability.
• Strong experience with open-source infra ecosystems and automation.
• Solid scripting or programming for infrastructure automation.
• Ability to investigate complex problems from first principles.

Responsibilities

• Own, operate, and improve critical infrastructure and internal systems across Normal.
• Build and maintain physical network and server infrastructure.
• Design, implement, and secure infrastructure across a broad surface area.
• Diagnose issues spanning Linux, networking, storage, security, and deployment.
• Automate operational workflows while understanding underlying systems.
• Make high-impact changes to sensitive production infrastructure.
• Improve reliability, observability, and maintainability of systems.
• Evaluate, deploy, and contribute to open-source infrastructure technologies.
• Create documentation and practices to scale infrastructure knowledge.
• Collaborate with engineers to support Normal’s growth.
