Job summary

Normal Computing in Mountain View is seeking a senior Platform Engineer to own and evolve the infrastructure powering our engineering organization. This hands-on role focuses on local physical infrastructure (network, servers) with regular on-site presence in Mountain View and occasional travel to New York.

You’ll work across Linux, networking, storage, security, automation, and deployment tooling. You will drive reliable, secure infrastructure, automate workflows, and contribute to open‑source

Qualifications

• 8–10+ years of experience in system administration, platform engineering, or equivalent hands-on work.
• Deep knowledge of Linux and/or BSD, and systems administration fundamentals.
• Experience across networking, storage, security, deployment systems, virtualization/containers, and observability.
• Significant experience with open‑source infrastructure technologies and automation scripting.

Responsibilities

• Own, operate, and improve critical infrastructure and internal systems at Normal.
• Build and maintain physical network and server infrastructure.
• Design and implement secure, maintainable infrastructure across a broad surface area.
• Diagnose complex issues spanning Linux, networking, storage, security, and deployment infra.
• Automate workflows while understanding underlying systems.
• Make high-impact changes to production infrastructure.
• Improve reliability, observability, and security of systems.
• Evaluate and contribute to open-source infrastructure tech.
• Create docs and practices to scale knowledge across distributed teams.
