Job summary

Capital Group in Charlotte is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer - Observability to design, build, and operate observability capabilities that help thousands of engineers understand application health and performance. You'll work with metrics, events, logs, and traces, using OpenTelemetry standards and tools like Datadog, Prometheus, and Grafana.

This hands-on role requires strong Python or Go skills, IaC expertise (Terraform/OpenTofu), and experience with AWS/EKS/Kubernetes and CI/CD.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent.
• 8+ years in Software/Platform Engineering or related fields.
• Strong fundamentals in networking, security, and cloud-native architectures.
• Experience instrumenting apps and building MELT telemetry pipelines.
• Proficiency in Python or Go; familiarity with Java/.NET/Node.js is a plus.
• AI-assisted coding experience and enterprise AI governance.
• Infrastructure-as-Code with Terraform/OpenTofu; Observability-as-Code.
• Experience with AWS (EKS/Kubernetes), containers, and CI/CD.
• Ability to define SLOs/SLIs and drive reliability standards.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate observability capabilities used by thousands of engineers.
• Instrument telemetry across metrics, events, logs, and traces using OpenTelemetry.
• Deliver Observability-as-Code with monitors, dashboards, and alerts as reusable modules.
• Integrate with Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, and other backends for unified visibility.
• Define golden signals, SLI/SLO standards, and cost/cardinality controls.
• Coach and mentor engineering teams to raise observability maturity across the organization.
• Collaborate on AI-assisted tooling and secure AI-generated code within governance.
