Job summary

American Family Insurance is seeking a Cloud Platform DevOps Engineer to design, build, and operate cloud capabilities across AWS and GCP. You will enable reliable delivery by developing Kubernetes and Infrastructure-as-Code foundations, building CI/CD pipelines, and driving automation and observability across engineering teams.

Roles include implementing Backstage-based self-service tooling, configuring the Software Catalog, and advancing a secure, scalable developer experience.

Qualifications

• Experience designing, implementing, and managing an internal developer portal (Backstage.io preferred).
• Ability to create self-service tools and streamline workflows.
• Experience with Backstage plugins, TypeScript, Node.js, React.
• Experience configuring Backstage Software Catalog.
• Ability to create software templates with Backstage Scaffolder.
• Cloud and IaC experience with AWS/GCP; Terraform.
• Experience with Crossplane.io.
• Strong containerization: Docker, Kubernetes.
• CI/CD experience with GitLab CI/CD.
• Artifact management with Artifactory.
• Scripting in Python/Go/Bash.
• SRE principles and observability with Datadog.
• Security/DevSecOps practices.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate cloud platform and DevOps capabilities across AWS and GCP.
