Job summary

American Family Insurance is hiring a cloud platform and DevOps engineer to design, build, and operate capabilities across AWS and GCP. You will enable reliable delivery by developing Kubernetes, IaC foundations, and CI/CD pipelines, while driving automation, observability, and best practices across teams.

The role is hybrid (flex office/home) with in-person days at Madison, WI; candidates must reside within close radius of listed offices and be able to travel up to 10% as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience designing and managing an internal developer portal (Backstage preferred).
• Strong focus on developer experience and self-service tooling.
• Proficient in TypeScript/Node.js/React for Backstage plugins and customization.
• Experience with Backstage Software Catalog and Scaffolder.
• Hands-on with Terraform to automate cloud resource provisioning.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate cloud platform and DevOps capabilities across AWS/GCP.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automation tools.
• Improve observability and SRE practices (SLOs, dashboards, incident response).
• Work with Kubernetes and IaC to manage cloud workloads across providers.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to standardize templates and workflows.
