Job summary

Capital Group is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to lead architecture, development, and scaling of the Internal Developer Platform powered by Backstage. You will own the platform as a product, establishing secure, automated golden paths for developers to create, deploy, and monitor workloads and services.

You will collaborate with platform, cloud, security, and product teams to deliver plugins and workflows, drive high adoption, and mentor engineers in platform engineering practices.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in platform engineering or DevOps with Backstage experience.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript and React.
• Strong proficiency in Python and Bash.
• Extensive production experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and AWS.
• Proven track record developing custom Backstage plugins.
• DevOps foundation: Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, CI/CD, IaC.
• Experience with authentication frameworks, SSO, and RBAC.
• Understanding of SDLC, reliability, and operational standards.
• Strong problem-solving and mentoring with product mindset.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, scale and operate the Internal Developer Platform using Backstage.
• Develop and maintain Backstage plugins, templates, and catalog.
• Integrate cloud, CI/CD and monitoring into Backstage UI.
• Design robust, secure microservices and APIs powering the platform.
• Collaborate with security, infra, and product teams to translate goals into plugins and workflows.
• Streamline developer workflows and drive platform adoption.
• Create golden paths for software delivery, testing and deployment.
• Gather feedback from engineers to improve features.
• Ensure high availability, performance and security of the Backstage system.
• Automate deployments and IaC maintenance tasks.
• Mentor junior engineers on Backstage and platform engineering.
• Document standards and architecture decisions.
