Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer for the Autonomous Vehicle Cloud Engineering team within AV Core Infrastructure. You will build a reliable internal platform with self-service workflows and APIs to accelerate AV workloads at scale.

The role requires deep Kubernetes/GKE, extensive cloud experience (GCP preferred), Go/Python, and Terraform skills, plus a growth mindset and ability to operate in ambiguity. Hybrid work from Sunnyvale/Austin with strong collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years coordinating technical strategy across teams and executives.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
• Hands-on production Kubernetes with one major cloud (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
• Strong software engineering skills in Go or Python, automation, APIs, or controllers.
• Experience designing and operating large-scale, high-availability distributed systems.

Responsibilities

• Build and evolve internal platform capabilities, self-service workflows, APIs, and automation.
• Design abstractions for consuming complex infrastructure (GPUs, etc.).
• Improve platform primitives across traffic, service mesh, runtime config, and connectivity.
• Reduce toil with declarative automation and observability (SLIs/SLOs).
• Own complex platform initiatives from problem to adoption.
• Collaborate with adjacent teams to reduce developer friction and improve reliability.
• Contribute to a healthy engineering culture through design and code reviews.
