Job summary

Athene is building its founding engineering team in Austin to transform how annuity and retirement products are distributed and managed. As Principal Engineer, you will provide hands-on technical leadership for a new platform starting with product rules and calculation services that support guarantee decisioning and AI interfaces.

You will design and deliver critical software, guide complex engineering decisions, mentor engineers and establish practices that speed delivery with quality, security

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
• 6+ years designing, building, and operating production software systems.
• Experience guiding complex technical designs and delivering software with AI coding agents.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on technical leadership for a new platform in Austin, starting with rules and calculation services.
• Translate business and actuarial requirements into scalable product rules, calculation services and APIs.
• Mentor engineers, lead design reviews and create clear technical documentation.
