Job summary

Target is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join our Developer Platform team. You will work on a platform that scaffolds fully configured codebases in seconds, with approved patterns, security standards, and platform integrations built in.

You will work across Kotlin, Python, and TypeScript. The role offers real ownership over technical decisions and a roadmap for new infrastructure and AI-assisted workflows. Hybrid work in MN is available to fit team needs.

Qualifications

• 4-year degree or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong backend fundamentals — proficient in JVM languages (Kotlin/Java).
• Experience designing and shipping production REST APIs.
• PostgreSQL or other relational database experience.
• Comfort navigating and contributing to distributed, multi-service codebases.
• Writes and organizes code across multiple languages, including distributed programming.
• Delivers high-performance, scalable, secure solutions.
• Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and developer platform tooling.
• Stays current with new and evolving technologies via training and self-directed learning.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, lifecycle management and total cost of ownership of services.
• Lead and conduct code reviews, design reviews, testing, and debugging at the application level.
• Partner with architects to translate abstract designs into concrete implementations.
• Provide technical oversight and coach others to resolve complex issues.
