Job summary

Lucid Motors in Southfield, MI is seeking a Sr. Plastics Engineer – Tooling and Process to strengthen the tooling and process group.

You will work on new developments, support DFM optimization, perform process simulations, evaluate tool concepts, and provide on-site support for process optimization. Ideal candidates have BS in polymer engineering, 5+ years in injection tooling, MoldFlow experience, travel up to 25%, and strong communication.

Qualifications

BS in polymer engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
5+ years’ experience evaluating DFM and injection molding tool designs.
Expertise in injection tooling technologies: in-mold decoration, labeling, foaming, water/gas assist, overmolding.
Experience with DFM for automotive A-surface parts.
Experience with flow simulation software (Autodesk MoldFlow).
Hands-on experience with plastic injection molding and process optimization.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 25%.

Responsibilities

Support plastics tool engineering and own polymer-related aspects from DFM to product launch.
Consult with design engineers and suppliers on process and tooling feasibility, DFM, efficiency and cost.
Evaluate flow studies and mold designs before tool approval.
Ensure plastic tooling compliance with Lucid Tool Standards.
On-site assessment of tool quality and drive injection molding process optimization.
Document methodically.
Represent material team in supplier communications and on-site visits.
