Job summary

The City of Glendale, AZ, seeks a Plans Examiner to analyze construction documents for code compliance across multiple disciplines, including structural, hydraulic, fire and life safety systems.

Requires a Bachelor's in building construction, engineering, architecture, fire science, or related field and three years of plans review or related experience; ICC certification within one year may be required. Duties include guiding architects and contractors and coordinating with city Fire Department.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in building construction, engineering, architecture, fire science, or related field; and three years experience in plans review, building inspection, fire inspections or construction contracting management.
• ICC certification within one year of appointment for General Plans Examiner and IF required for Fire Plans Examiner.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets building and structural construction documents to ensure compliance with codes and standards.
• Advises architects, engineers, contractors and staff on code changes and new methods; negotiates conformance solutions.
• Performs structural engineering calculations for vertical and lateral loads and seismic analysis.
• Identifies plan inadequacies and requires corrections; maintains plan review records and data status.
• Coordinates with Fire Department on fire and life safety issues; assists inspectors in field reviews.
• Participates in professional organizations to discuss code-related issues; supports city development services.
