Qualifications

• AICP certification and 10+ years of planning experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Landscape Architecture, Architecture or related field.
• Demonstrates knowledge of planning and development principles and trends.
• Ability to study, analyze findings and recommend urban design solutions.
• Able to interpret federal, state, and local regulations and ordinances.
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Lumion, and MS Office; strong hand drawing skills.
• Strong written, oral and graphic communications with diverse stakeholders.
• Can read architectural drawings, landscape plans and grading plans; experience preparing presentation graphics and renderings.

What We're Looking For:

Barge is currently seeking to fill a Senior Planner/Urban Designer position in the Landscape Architecture and Planning (LA/P) practice area of the Site Solutions business unit. The group is committed to and passionate about the quality of the profession in the built environment. Projects are primarily located in the SE USA, but with emphasis in Nashville and Middle Tennessee, and include urban design, housing, town centers, mixed-use developments, streetscapes, greenways, trails, educational, industrial and institutional projects. The candidate will assist us with both public and private sector projects and will have strong design, drawing, and rendering skills.

Responsibilities:

• Provide analysis and recommendations on community planning, urban design and entitlement issues in a wide variety of rural, suburban and urban settings;
• Working individually or with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure that projects are completed in a timely manner, producing high-quality urban design and planning products;
• Assist in the preparation of comprehensive plans, master plans, zone changes, mixed-use development guidelines, subdivision and other entitlement applications and related graphics or efforts;
• Explaining urban design and sustainable planning principles and practices to internal and external clients;
• Effectively communicating urban design concepts and solutions verbally and graphically; and
• Working with stakeholders and providing representation at public meetings.
• Build and maintain relationships with governmental entities, civic and community organizations, and professional organizations

Education & Experience Qualifications:

• AICP certification and ten (10) or more years of planning experience demonstrating use of the skills described above.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Landscape Architecture, Architecture or related field from an accredited university and four (4) years of planning experience may be considered;
• Demonstrates innovative thinking and knowledge of the principles, practices, and trends in planning and development;
• Can conduct studies, analyze findings and provide recommendations for a wide range of urban design issues with an emphasis on landscape architecture and site design;
• Can interpret federal, state, and local regulations and ordinances;
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Lumion, and Microsoft Office Suite and has strong hand drawing skills;
• Possesses strong written, oral and graphic communications skills and is able to communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders in a clear, compelling manner;
• Can understand and interpret architectural drawings, landscape plans and grading plans; and
• Experience preparing and assembling presentation graphics, graphic models and renderings, and report/plan documents.
