Job summary

Barge Design Solutions is seeking a motivated Aviation Planner to support our Nashville office, shaping airport and aviation system planning across the region. You will work with multidisciplinary teams on ALPs, master plans, environmental documentation, and FAA coordination.

The ideal candidate has a foundation in aviation planning, strong communication skills, familiarity with FARs/FAA orders, and a drive to deliver practical, sustainable transportation solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in aviation-related field is required.
  • Entry level to 4 years of aviation planning experience.
  • Strong communication skills and professionalism.
  • Knowledge of FARs, FAA Circulars and FAA orders preferred.
  • Experience with airport planning and FAA coordination preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform airport planning activities as part of a planning team.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to support design projects.
  • Produce high-quality exhibits and documents to communicate planning study results.
  • Lead planning projects with autonomy and client-facing responsibility.
  • Contribute to Barge Design Solutions' aviation team and projects.
  • Collect, analyze, and disseminate data for airport planning.
  • Support FAA environmental permitting and site selection studies.
  • Conduct obstruction analysis, land use studies, and facility requirements analyses.
  • Perform site visits and field inspections.
  • Attend client and stakeholder meetings and document decisions.

Job description

What We're Looking For:

Barge Design Solutions is seeking a motivated and forward-thinking Aviation Planner to support our growing aviation practice, reporting to our Nashville office. In this role, you will play a key part in shaping airport and aviation system planning efforts across the region, partnering with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in aviation planning, airport master planning, and FAA coordination, along with a passion for enhancing transportation infrastructure. You will contribute to a variety of projects including airport layout plans (ALPs), master plans, environmental documentation, and strategic planning initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Performs airport planning activities as part of a larger planning team
  • Works collaboratively with engineering teams to support design projects
  • Participates in the production of high-quality exhibits and documents to communicate the results of the planning study elements
  • Leads planning projects and working closely with our clients; ability to operate with autonomy and ownership over assigned work
  • Contributes significantly to the overall success of Barge Design Solutions, Barge’s Aviation team and the team’s projects
  • Collects, analyses and disseminates data to support airport planning projects
  • Supports environmental permitting requirements and site selection studies in accordance with FAA Advisory Circulars and Orders
  • Performs obstruction analysis, land use studies, and facility requirements analysis to support airfield planning
  • Conducts site visits and field inspections
  • Attend client and stakeholder meetings, documenting decisions
Education & Experience Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in aviation management, aeronautical science, planning, engineering, or a related field
  • Entry level - 4 years of experience in aviation planning, or similar experience
  • Possesses a genuine interest in the aviation industry and eagerness to grow within the field preferred
  • Possesses strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
  • Interacts with employees, other consultants, clients, and others with respect and professionalism
  • Ability to work in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, team environment and is responsive to deadlines
  • Demonstrates an understanding of airport planning issues/solutions and ability to undertake technical assignments
  • Knowledge of FARs, FAA Advisory Circulars, and FAA orders that apply to airport planning is preferred
  • 2 years of experience in a consulting firm environment preferred
  • Ability to work in AutoCAD and GIS software preferred
  • Pursuing certifications (AICP, AAAE CM, PMP), as appropriate
